Islander White Dial Automatic Dive Watch with AR Double Dome Sapphire Crystal, and 120-click Bezel #ISL-56

Islander White Dial Automatic Dive Watch with AR Double Dome Sapphire Crystal, and 120-click Bezel #ISL-56

The Islander ISL-56 has the familiar look of an iconic dive watch which has been discontinued. The Islander version mimics the original but, it has an all solid link bracelet that uses screws for sizing (instead of the very fussy pin and collar system). The upgraded bracelet also features a more robust milled deployant clasp with a dual-push button release. Another Islander upgrade is a double-dome sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective (inside only) coating that provides scratch protection and a clearer view of the dial and time. Note: This is a new version of the ISL-56 with blue 15 minute markings on the bezel.

The movement is a 24-jewel NH36 automatic that offers you the same reliable performance as later editions of this iconic dive watch. The snow white dial features ice blue hands and hour markers coated with SuperLuminova for reading the time in the dark. The day and date window is in the familiar 3:00 position.

The lugs are drilled for bracelet to dive strap changes. Lug width is 20mm. The case size is 42mm diameter by 13mm thick. 47mm tip to tip. Finish is brushed and polished. The crown and caseback are screw-in and the uni-directional rotating (slightly concave) bezel is a 120-click with a luminous PIP. Water resistance is 200 meters.

    Islander Monster

Posted by Steven Schoenfeld on May 12th 2021

The watch looks absolutely cool, fits well, and is fun to wear. Here are things to keep in mind before ordering: 1. The watch has a lot of steel and is heavy with the steel bracelet (about 185 grams with sizing for my wrist) and 2. The bezel feels soft when rotated and moves a bit too easily, although there is no back play it is very easy to knock the bezel and it will move on you. If you don't mind these two attributes it is a great watch.

    Calling All Monster Fans

I am a Seiko Monster collector and have to say how incredibly impressed I am with the Islander Monster. I purchased the white and red dial variants. The quality and value is through the roof. Also, with the prices of generations 1-3 Seiko Monsters starting to go through the roof, the prices on these are, frankly, a steal for what you're getting. The same, if not better, quality and value than the Seiko's. I especially appreciate the screw-in solid pins on the bracelet. The weight is right on too. Awesome product, Mark! Thank you.

    Return of the Monster....almost

Posted by Corey Kelly on Apr 27th 2021

I own several of the islander brand watches and have been very impressed with them. So naturally when I seen this one I had to place an order for it immediately. Upon receiving the watch today I set to sizing the bracelet and set the time, then put it on my wrist. The colors are amazing on this one, the design spot on for the older monsters which I had a second gen in orange dial. But like the other reviewer, I have one gripe and it’s the bezel. It feels as if there isn’t enough spring tension, it rotates awkwardly when gripping the sides, in fact it skips clicks and for a moment I almost thought this was a 60 click bezel. Turn it rapidly and it lets out a screech. I found if you applied just a bit of downward pressure, it catches all clicks, operates smoothly as it should, and no screeching. With that said, I’m no diver, and my original seiko monster was a tool watch and was beaten on as such. I plan to do the same with this one, so the bezel action issue isn’t a big one for me, but for others that are more picky this might be a problem for them. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase and may consider another color, if an orange dial happens to make its way into production I’m not sure I could resist. Hopefully the bezel issue is a simple fix in the future.

    ISL-56

Bought this one as soon as I saw it. Likes...Comfortable. Perfect size for me. Love drilled lugs and screwed links. Keeps perfect time. Crown screws in smooth. Minor issues....bezel feels a little loose. Date isn't quite centered in the window. Overall good value.
