Islander 39mm Pilot Watch with Vintage Blue Livery Color Scheme #ISL-232

This is the newest version of the Islander 39mm Pilot (Flieger) watch. It is a 39mm Pilot style watch with a Type-B dial. This is known as a navigator dial, as the minutes are prominent, and the hours are secondary. The watch was used primarily to time navigation between waypoints. The smaller hour track has the hour hand contained within it. The case is a very wearable 39mm in diameter and it is just 11.6mm thick. Lug to lug measurement is 45.8mm. The screw-in case back has the silhouette of an F-14 fighter jet etched into it. The iconic F-14 was manufactured by the Grumman company on Long Island and it was featured in the movie Top Gun and Top Gun 2.

Inside the case is an NH35, 24-jewel automatic movement with 21,600 vibrations per hour. This self-winding movement supports hand winding and hacks (seconds hand stops when you pull out the crown). Power reserve is about 41 hours fully wound. The date mechanics have been removed from the movement, so there is no “ghost” clicking when the crown is in the date-set position.

The sunburst blue dial has Super-LumiNova on the sword-style hands and hour makers. The dial is unbranded like many of the vintage WWII offerings. The hour hand, minute hand, seconds hand and dial markings are all treated with Super-LumiNova. You will note that the dial has excellent visibility due to the use of an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that also guards against scratches.

The colorway of this model is reminiscent of a now defunct airline livery from the 1980’s. As a small nod to commercial aviation, the seconds hand has a passenger jet using the hand as a runway for “takeoff”. It’s a cool little detail we think you will enjoy.

This model comes mounted on a multi-link fully brushed stainless steel bracelet. The has solid female endlinks, so it articulates at the case for the smallest of wrists. The bracelet is sized with screws and a deployant signed clasp offers 2 positions of micro-adjustment. We also include a bonus white leather strap with blue stitching. The lug width is 20mm.

Lastly, the watch features a screwdown crown, something not often seen on pilot watches, to ensure it has a full 100 meters of water resistance.
