Islander Port Jefferson GMT Skin Diver Automatic Watch with Black Dial #ISL-246

Introducing our first traveler GMT model, the Port Jefferson GMT. We took the popular Islander Port Jefferson skin diver and upgraded it with a true GMT movement, the Miyota 9075 traveler GMT. What is a traveler GMT? As the name implies, it is built for the jet-setter. Getting off a plane at a different time zone? No problem, pull out the crown one click and when you rotate it, the hour hand moves in one hour increments on the time scale. It is so advanced that you can go forwards or backwards, and the date will change as needed! The GMT hand stays where it is, and this would be your “home time”.

At just 13.2mm thick to the apex of the crystal, it will easily fit under a shirt cuff. The Port Jeff GMT is a skin diver watch–skin diving implies exploration under the waves without the aid of SCUBA equipment. Water resistance does not need to be as high as professional divers, yet we still managed to make this watch a full 150 meters water resistant - enough pressure resistance for virtually any recreational diver.

The Islander Port Jeff is perfectly sized at 40mm in diameter. This is a great in-between size; not as grand as your standard 42mm case, and not as small as 38mm divers. The lug to lug length is 47.8mm and the weight of the watch with bracelet is 170 grams.

Powering the watch is a Miyota 9075 movement, beating at an amazing 28,800 beats per hour. This means the seconds hand ticks a smooth 8 times per second. A color matched date window is placed at the 6:00 to keep the dial balanced. To maintain water resistance, and accidental deployment, the crown is screwdown.

Covering the dial is a scratch resistant single-domed sapphire crystal. The underside has been coated with an anti-reflective coating. The dome of the crystal adds 0.5mm to the thickness of the watch, but it also slightly magnifies the dial. To provide low light viewing, the dial indices and hands are coated with C3 Super-LumiNova that glows green. The bezel insert glows blue with BGW9.

Securing the Port Jeff to your wrist is a negative endlink Beads of Rice bracelet. This style of endlink allows the bracelet to articulate at the case, making it very comfortable to wear and increases its versatility among varying wrist sizes. The bracelet is solid link, solid endlink and sized with screws. A clasp with Islander logo, and 3 positions of micro-adjust is used. The bracelet is 20mm at the lug, and tapers to 18mm at the clasp.

Instead of a conventional dive bezel, the Port Jefferson GMT features a bi-directional bezel with a 24 hour scale. You can use this to keep track of time in a 3rd time zone. . . super handy! Turning the watch over, you will see a deeply embossed, screwdown caseback featuring the Islander logo and a lighthouse.

This particular model is a black dial with applied markers and silver hands. To provide a pop of color, an accenting red GMT hand is used. The bezel insert is black red aluminum.
