One of the greatest selling Seiko series of all time, the SNK80X series, has finally been upgraded by Seiko. The new Sports collection features a larger, 39.4mm diameter case, but retains the same easy to read dial format. The movement has been upgraded to the hand winding and hacking Seiko 4R36 movement, with 24 jewels, a power reserve of 40 hours and a day/date feature. The water resistance has also been upgraded from 30M to 100M.
The case is black ion plated, and is 13.2 mm thick. A push-pull crown is used to wind the watch, or set the time and calendar. Flipping the watch over, you are treated to a view of the automatic movement in action. The orange outlined hands are filled with Lumibrite for easy nighttime viewing, as are the dial markers.
The black dial features the hours on an inner circle, with the minutes displayed on the outer track. The use of orange hands and numbers, against the black ion case, really makes the watch POP. The day and date is present at the 3:00 position, and is done with a black background to blend with the dial. Covering the dial is Seiko's proprietary domed Hardlex crystal.
Securing the watch to your wrist is a combination canvas/leather strap, with eye-catching orange accents on the interior of the strap. It's really a very sporty look.
