Islander Mitchel Automatic Field Watch with Nylon Weave Strap and an AR Sapphire Crystal #ISL-43

Islander Mitchel Automatic Field Watch with Nylon Weave Strap and an AR Sapphire Crystal #ISL-43

The Islander ISL-43 classic field watch design with a forest green dial. The dial has a 12-hour scale and a smaller 24-hour scale for military time. The hour and minute hands are filled with SuperLuminova as are the 12-hour numbers and markers around the dial. The brushed stainless steel case is a very wearable 39mm in diameter and it is 12mm thick. Lug to lug (or tip to tip) measurement is 48.5mm. The crown is a signed screw-down type that enables a better water resistance rating of 100-meters.

Inside the case is an NH36A, 24-jewel automatic movement with 21,600 vibrations per hour. This self-winding movement supports hand winding and hacks (seconds hand stops when you pull out the crown). Power reserve is about 41 hours fully wound. You can view the movement via an exhibition-window (screw-down) caseback.

The ISL-43 has date displayed viewed at 3:00 on the dial. You will note that the dial has excellent visibility due to the use of an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that also guards against scratches.

This model comes with a woven military green nylon strap with leather backing and a signed stainless steel buckle. The strap comes with quick-release pins so you can change up the look with another strap without the need for any special tools. Just use your index finger.

    Islander Field Watch

Posted by Chad Beauchaine on Oct 4th 2021

I love this watch and had been wanting a field watch for sometime, but I really didn't want to spend $5-600 for this style of watch. Somehow I stumbled onto some of Marc's youtube videos so I checked out Islander watches. Really glad I did. This watch wears and looks fantastic!! I can't believe it's under $200. Plus, I thought I had an issue when I received the watch but it turned it to be user error. Nonetheless, Marc's team responded quickly and courteously even though it turned out I was a big dope. I will definitely be buying from Island Watch again.

    ISL-43 field watch

Very satisfied with the watch. Goes well with uniform. But minus one star on rating due band. Too stiff. The only watch that I’ve purchased where my first thought was, I’ve got to get another strap.

    ISL-43

I received this watch about a month ago, it's my second Islander watch. Absolutely love it. Finish is top notch, very legible, great lume, sapphire crystal, nice band and it's become my daily driver. I do landscaping and this watch has held up to the abuse it receives... Working with woody shrubs and digging in the dirt and mud fixing irrigation. And it's keeping fantastic time... Only about 70 secs slow after 6 weeks without adjustment from day one. Couldn't be happier!

Best Value Field Watch? You Bet!

Posted by Matthew Howell on Jul 12th 2021

This is the best value entry level field watch currently available in my opinion. I had a Seiko SNK809 in my collection that I gave to my grandson a few years ago as his first automatic watch. It is a great value considering what you get for what you pay. However, it cannot compare to my #ISL-43. An automatic watch with a solid movement, a sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance, screw-down crown, hand-winding and hacking all for less than $190. I recently saw Marc's video on the new Seiko 5 field watches, and it prompted me to write this review. The new SRPGs are a welcome update to the SNKs and SNZs, but they still fall short of what you get with an Islander field watch. Boldr, Vaer, Bertucci, Seiko, the new Bulova field watches, and even Marathon all offer less value for your dollar for an automatic field watch than what you get with the Islander field watches. You might be able to find a field watch that offers the same features for less money on Aliexpress, but there may be issues with the watch you get. Aliexpress is not known for its QC. The quality control issues that plague some of the watches there have not been an issue with Islander watches in my experience. I own several other Islanders, #ISL-38, #ISL-87, #ISL-53, and #ISL-32, in addition to my #ISL-43 and I have not had any quality control issues with any of them that I can detect, and all of them are operating well within expected tolerances.

Love everything about this watch: size, color, band, accuracy and price. Another home run from Marc! No doubt, this will not be my last Islander purchase!

    Amazing value for money!

Posted by Stephen Doyle on May 14th 2021

You're not paying for renowned and long stranding giant of a brand. But you are paying for a watch made by an enthusiast who truly cares about quality and value for money. So many features for such a low price! - Sapphire glass on the front and back - Exhibition display back - High quality movement - Signed screw down crown - Really nice strap

    Fantastic value

Posted by WatchGuyTX on May 8th 2021

Bought this to use as my “travel watch” and I am very pleased with the construction, design, and the overall value that this watch delivers on. At 39mm it’s easily wearable, relatively light, and feels well made. The strap is pretty stiff for the first day or so of use, but loosens up to get more comfortable after that. The Seiko NH36 movement inside is standard yet reliable, and the ability to hack and hand wind is a big upgrade from the NH35 in my opinion. If you’re looking for an automatic field watch under $200, look no further.

    Impressive. Very impressive.

With the exception of my Vostok, this is the most inexpensive automatic watch I own by a decent margin. I haven't been able to take it off my wrist since I got it and changed the strap. Why did I change the strap? Well, as comfortable and durable as it appeared, it was just not long enough for my 8.25" wrist. Plus, I wash my hands a lot and needed a rubber alternative. Incredible bargain for this watch. You will not be dissatisfied, guaranteed!
