Islander Black Dial Automatic Dive Watch with AR Sapphire Crystal, and Luminous Ceramic Bezel Insert #ISL-72

Islander Black Dial Automatic Dive Watch with AR Sapphire Crystal, and Lumious Ceramic Bezel Insert #ISL-72

The Islander ISL-72 dive watch has a black pilot-style dial with black ceramic diver bezel insert with luminous markings. The pilot dial with the prominent 3, 6, 9, and 12 hour markers is a unique combination for a dive watch. It stands out and is very easy to read. There is no day-date window on this model. The hands are coated with SuperLuminova for telling the time in the dark. The 120-click uni-directional bezel has a scratch-resistant diver marked black ceramic insert that is treated with SuperLuminova. The anti-reflective flat sapphire crystal guards against scratches and provides a clear view of the dial.

The ISL-72 has a familiar rounded case with an off-set crown at 4:00. The stainless steel case diameter is 40mm with a thickness of 13.5mm. Tip to tip it is a very wearable 44mm. Note that the lug ends are drilled for easier bracelet to strap changes. The case back has a rendering of Long Island on it along with the Islander name, Island Watch and 200 meter water resistance.

Powering the ISL-72 is a reliable NH36, 24-jewel automatic movement with 21,600 vibrations per hour. This self-winding movement supports hand winding and hacks (seconds hand stops when you pull out the crown). Power reserve is about 41 hours fully wound.

The bracelet features all solid links and solid end links. Plus it has a milled scissor push-button flip-lock deployant clasp with three position micro-adjustment. For sizing the bracelet, screws are used for removing bracelet links instead of pins. For sizing the bracelet, screws are used for removing bracelet links instead of pins.

Note: This Islander dive is compatible with aftermarket parts available at Island Watch (and elsewhere) for the SKX013 models, such as crystals, bezels, inserts, chapter rings, dials, bracelets, and hands.

    UPDATE

Posted by Marc McClenahan on Aug 5th 2021

Still love the watch, (see original review) but the accuracy is poor. It’s running fast about 1 1/2 minutes per day, Unless I can get it regulated under warranty, it will have to go to a watch repair shop to be regulated.

    Wonderful what if piece

Posted by Jon on Jun 9th 2021

I first will say I have a large wrist 7.8" so this is not a large or even my normal case size, but being smaller it gives off the vintage dive vibe and look. I didn't wear it on the o bracelet but instead opted for a uncle seiko beads of rice, and it was great looking. But I settled on a black rubber chocolate bar uncle seiko band. This really is an amazing looking and wearing combination. Flatley the dial face is amazing the relieved non outlined markers and arabics are fantastic as are the markers. Sword hands are in perfect proportion, and you can read the thing about a mile away, with fantastic symmetry. The bezel is easy to turn but the stops are positive and it doesn't get out of alignment during wear...its a 4r36 so your timing will vary but I am getting +2-3 seconds a day from mine when I wear it 24-7 and avg the error over 7 days...about 3-5 if I take off at night...the same person who adjusted my red October must have done this one. The 4 o'clock crown is easy to set,,,,and oddly the case shape seems to hide the ghost date position...I'd much much rather have that than a date window spoiling the looks of the expork. ;-)

Great watch , looking into bezel insert mod as I dont think glossy black insert goes with the flat black dial .

    Great Spork tribute

Posted by Alan Mentzer on May 24th 2021

A great combination of the Mini Turtle with the Spork's dial. Well made, solid, and unique. I like it so much I've purchased two, one to mod and one to keep in its original style. Love to see a full size Spork too.

My first Islander. It won't be the last!

Posted by Marc McC on May 20th 2021

Just received mine today and returned from the jeweler for resizing. Love this watch already! It combines my two favorite watch styles, aviator and diver. The 40mm size is perfect for my smallish wrist, and it's lighter than most of my automatics. And the lume is AWESOME, especially with the illuminated bezel. This is my first Islander, but as stated, probably won't be my last. Many thanks to Marc for the quick processing of my order. This looks to be a terrific watch at a reasonable price.

    Great watch for slim wrists!

Posted by Ray Ng on May 20th 2021

Just remember when you are ordering this watch, the case size is 40mm, the bezel diameter measures 36 mm. At first it seems smaller than expected since my initial focus was on the bezel. However, the size completely fits, and its look is dope! I wear this watch almost full time, except when I sleep. So, I work out with it, jog, walk, shower, and do all my chores with it. This watch has some weight to it, as you can imagine, one of the bars in a link broke off. Island was quick to send me a replacement link bar. However, I decided to get myself an Uncle Seiko tire track rubber strap which I think will be the look I will be settling in. The black rubber strap blended in well with the watch, and contrast very well the overall look of it. I hope Island will offer a version of this watch with black rubber straps; I know it will be a hot seller. I have a chronograph, a GMT, and a field watch. This is my first diver, and I am getting really hook on it as it looks nice but not too dressy, rugged, and something I can wear daily. I have a 6.5-inch wrist, and this watch is very well proportioned to it.

    ISLANDER #ISL-72

I just wanted to give a shout-out to Marc and his beautiful version of the spork watch. To say that I'm fully satisfied would be an understatement. So happy with d aesthetics and quality of this model... it has kept time accurately so far, in about 2 weeks on my wrist fairly constant usage. I'd say it's on par with my other Seikos. My wife loves the lume at night, very bright. Durability remains to be seen, but with Seiko running the gears inside- I see no problem. I’ll provide an update in 6 months or so, This won't be my last Islander watch, you can bet on that; based on the overall value alone, it is unbeatable!!!
