Islander Red Dial Automatic Dive Watch with AR Double Dome Sapphire Crystal, and 120-click Bezel #ISL-59

Islander Red Dial Automatic Dive Watch with AR Double Dome Sapphire Crystal, and 120-click Bezel #ISL-59

The Islander ISL-59 has the familiar look of an iconic dive watch which has been discontinued. The Islander version mimics the the original but, it has an all solid link bracelet that uses screws for sizing (instead of the very fussy pin and collar system). The upgraded bracelet also features a more robust milled deployant clasp with a dual-push button release. Another Islander upgrade is a double-dome sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective (inside only) coating that provides scratch protection and a clearer view of the dial and time.

The movement is a 24-jewel NH36 automatic that offers you the same reliable performance as later editions of this iconic dive watch. The red dial features white hands and hour markers coated with SuperLuminova for reading the time in the dark. The day and date window is in the familiar 3:00 position.

The lugs are drilled for bracelet to dive strap changes. Lug width is 20mm. The case size is 42mm diameter by 13mm thick. 47mm tip to tip. Finish is brushed and polished. The crown and caseback are screw-in and the uni-directional rotating (slightly concave) bezel is a 120-click with a luminous PIP. Water resistance is 200 meters.

    Islander red dial ISL-59

Posted by Christopher Cook on Aug 16th 2021

This watch is, for the money, a great addition to any collection. Great lume, keeps amazingly good time, rock solid bracelet and overall 'feel', this is a watch that I take swimming, hiking, and do all manner of outdoor yardwork without thinking twice. I run a distillery and on bottling days this thing gets knocked around quite a bit; no issues at all. Lastly, clearly this watch is modelled closely after the first generation Seiko monster. I like this one better if for no other reason than the bracelet has screw in pins and the original was pin and collar. One slight criticism: the bezel is not tight and tends to float with incidental contact. Aside from that worth the money and I doubt any purchaser will be disappointed.

    Monster of a watch

Posted by Carlo C on Aug 15th 2021

Great watch. Love the feel, fit and finish for the price. Love the matte blood red and the pop of the white dracula's teeth-esque indices. Bracelet is nice, but tends to stick a bit to the skin or pull some hair, but I find myself still preferring this bracelet over other NATOs or leather straps in 20mm. Definitely a monster for the price - can't go wrong with a long island watch.

I am incredibly pleased with this watch. I hav 2 Seiko Monsters and the Islander takes it to the next level, from bracelet chrystal and movement . I am just waiting for other versions to be produced to get another. This is a lot of watch for the money and service is great at Long Island Watches

    Great watch

Just received my new ISL-59 yesterday. Love the red dial. Bracelet was the easiest I've ever sized. I think it's great that Marc is about to recreate the best features of the long out-of-production first/second gen Seiko Monster, while giving his watch enormous upgrades (crystal, bracelet, etc.). Plus, you could never get a red dial monster, and this one is just gorgeous.

    Fantastic

I was really blown away by what you have done here with this Gen 1 reinterpretation. If I made a list of (my own) desired mods, it would nearly match: Gen 1 dial with new color, sapphire crystal, hacking/hand-winding movement, Gen 2 crown, bracelet screw links, nix the diver extension on the clasp, etc. I took away 1 star due to the very loose bezel and, for me, I liked the original bracelet taper to 18mm (minus the weird link "step-down" section). This bracelet tapers from the lug "flare out" but only narrows to 20mm at the clasp (net-zero taper). It is more substantial all around but not as comfortable to me.

ISLANDER RED DIAL AUTOMATIC DIVE WATCH #ISL-59

Posted by Rob on Jun 2nd 2021

I'm 13 and my Dad bought me this watch to celebrate my graduation from elementary school here in Peterborough, Ontario. We both share a love of watches. Red is also my favourite colour and I feel like I have received something that will become an heirloom. Amazing watch and I can't wait to try it out in the lakes and rivers!

    ISL-59

I am really happy with this watch. Even though it was designed to be a Seiko Monster homage, for me it ended up being the Oris Aquis 'cherry red' killer. As much as the watch media has tried to hype that cherry red Aquis, for me it just didn't live up to its $2300 asking price. When this red Monster came along at a 12th the price and had more features I pulled the trigger. The Islander gave me the same steel rotating bezel, a day/date complication, strap options not available with the Aquis (I ended up buying a Zuludiver beads of rice bracelet for my Islander) even though the Monster style factory bracelet with screwed links was perfectly adequate. The watch has been running at around +2 to 3 seconds/day. The ISL-66 has a less cluttered dial and more closely mimics the cherry red Aquis's dial if you want that, but this red Monster had a 1mm smaller lug to lug than both the ISL-66 and the Aquis(48mm) and a better crown position for smaller wrists. I was a little hesitant to buy a 42mm watch but it wears closer to a 40mm, not at all obtrusive or oversized.

One ISLANDER to Rule Them All!

Posted by Leo Lantz on May 19th 2021

The Islander #ISL-59 "MONSTER " is absolutely fantastic. The domed sapphire crystal is beautiful. The fit and finish is perfect. The bezel is buttery smooth with zero back play and it lines up perfectly with the seconds designations on the dial. Add to this a solid, perfectly matched bracelet and you end up with the BEST Islander watch of them all, imho. The green lume contrasts beautiful with the muted-red dial. I own watches 5X the price of this watch but can say they hold no advantage over my Islander Monster. Marc,my hat is off to you. This watch is perfect.
