Islander x The Urban Gentry "Rangemaster" Limited Edition Automatic Watch #ISL-153

Celebrating 2 straight years of monthly watch talks, Island Watch and The Urban Gentry have teamed up to bring you the ultimate collaboration watch – the “Rangemaster”. Dreamt up by TGV and produced by the Islander brand, the Rangemaster will be your everyday companion whether you have a mountain to summit, or an event to attend. In design for nearly a year, with every aspect meticulously thought out, you will see the Rangemaster is the ultimate “go anywhere, do anything” wristwatch.

The case is perfectly proportioned at just 38mm in diameter and a mere 10mm thick – our thinnest Islander watch ever! That is thin enough to go under the tightest of shirt cuffs. With a lug to lug measurement of 44.5mm you will find it fits virtually all wrists, and the use of negative endlinks on the bracelet ensures it will not protrude past your wrist. The case is tastefully done in full brush on the top, and polished sides. The bracelet is full brush as well, and tapers from 20mm at the lug to 16mm at the clasp. It is sized with screws, and is solid link with solid endlinks – the clasp is a 3 position milled scissor clasp. The Urban Gentry logo is etched into the clasp.

The dial of the watch incorporates many useful design elements, all playing together perfectly to maintain amazing legibility, whether in daylight or night. The dial is marked with the Islander logo at the top, and the collaborator, The Urban Gentry, has the lion logo on the bottom half of the dial. Under that is the “Islander” text, and “Self-Winding” as a nod to what is inside keeping the time – a true no-date Miyota 9039 movement that beats at 28,800 beats per hour, which gives the seconds hand a very smooth 8 ticks per second motion. Power reserve is about 40 hours, so you will be able to lay it down for a day, and pop it back on the following day without missing a beat. Dial legibility is turned up to the maximum with stylized 3/6/9 markers, and trapezoids for the remainder. The sharp eye will catch the lack of hash marks just to the left and right of 12:00; a gap that is used to help with synchronization and hacking. Basically, this gap represents the time required for you to process the command to “synchronize” and pull the crown; right around ½ a second.

The hands stand out on the stark black dial with a sharp white outline, and filled with BGW9 lume. Additionally, the markers and numbers on the dial have the same lume quality, and all glow cool blue when the lights go down. The rehaut is sparsely filled in with only the military time hours, again, keeping with ultimate legibility.

Lastly, the watch is topped with a flat sapphire crystal coated with AR on the inside to keep glare to a minimum. A screwdown crown ensures 100 meters of water resistance, and the caseback has an embossing of the two collaborating parties; Islander and The Urban Gentry. Limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, the LE number is etched into the side of the caseback. (Sorry, we cannot take number preferences)
