Precision and legibility are paramount for the railroad station master to keep trains running on time and without incident. The Islander Penn watches, with the use of vintage railroad style hands and numerals, makes the watch instantly recognizable as a railroad watch – but in a convenient 36mm case size that makes it ideal for a large variety of wrists.

The Penn watch is named after Penn Station, the starting and ending point for most of the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) service. The LIRR is one of the oldest and most famous railroads in the USA – and the largest – servicing 91 million riders a year between Long Island and New York City.

Besides being just 36mm in diameter, the Penn is 12mm thick and only 44mm from lug to lug. A 20mm leather strap wraps very comfortably around your wrist. Turning it over, you can view the 24 jewel NH36 movement (day and date mechanics removed) beating in action. With a sapphire crystal on the front and the back, it will stay looking like new for years to come. An embossed screwdown crown helps ensure the watch maintains its 100 meters of water resistance.

The dial has a “record player” pattern in its center, and is done in a vintage gold color. The hands are black and filled with C3 Super-LumiNova. On the dial, there are C3 markers at each hour. Telling the time in low light is a breeze! Also, you will notice a military time pattern of numbers is cleverly hidden in the railroad track chapter ring.

The dial of the Penn watch was designed by Marvin Menke, owner and founder of Hemel Watches, also located on Long Island.
