The Orange Monster is one of the few dive watches to ever capture the hearts and minds of watch enthusiasts as much as the the Seiko Orange Monster. It has become the benchmark for the whole watch industry since its introduction about 11 years ago.

At the time of its introduction, it was considered a large watch. It was colorful, robust looking and very well made. It was also extremely affordable. At some point, instead of being referred to as the SKX781K1, it got the nickname Orange Monster. That name stuck and the watch began to sell like crazy all over the world.

One of the biggest assests of the Monster is its incredible luminosity. On the Monster, Seiko used two to three times the normal thickness of its LumiBrite glow-in-the-dark material to mark the hours on the dial. LumiBrite was also used on the hands to create one of the brightess and most readable watches ever made for low light conditions or for use under water. Charge this watch up with an LED flashlight for 30 seconds and it will shock you in a dark room with how much it glows. It is simply awesome.

A domed crystal was used to minimize reflections under water, and the rugged looking bezel is slighty concave to offer some protection for the crystal. Seiko offset the crown to 4:00 for inscreased comfort on the wrist and protected it with and unobtrusive crown guard.

The Seiko 7S26 automatic movement is one of Seiko's most popular and it has a long and venerable history with a reputation for ruggedness and reliability. It winds with the movement of your wrist.
