Formex Essence 41mm "Space Ghost" Automatic COSC with Meteorite Dial #0334.1.6643.100
A METEORITE ON THE WRIST
The Space Ghost debuts with a dial cut from the Muonionalusta meteorite – a fragment over 4.5 billion years old that struck Earth more than a million years ago after traveling through space at –270°C. Its distinctive Widmanstätten pattern, formed through slow cooling over eons, gives each dial its own intricate, interlacing structure – no two are alike.
To preserve the meteorite’s natural beauty and prevent oxidation, Formex, together with Cadranor, the sister company specialized in dials and a reference in the industry, developed a proprietary treatment that penetrates into the porous iron matrix. A galvanic rhodium plating seals the surface and enhances its silvery sheen without compromising the raw texture beneath. Blued hands and markers amplify the dial’s spectral character.
We aren’t just filling a gap between 39 and 43. We took the chance to ask: where can we make it better? The result is a real sweet-spot size that wears just right for a broader community – and upgrades across the board. The new butterfly clasp lets you micro-adjust the fit over a wider range, on the fly, without opening it, and it still looks completely seamless on the wrist. The redesigned screw-down crown works seamlessly with our Case Suspension System, locking in securely without compromising comfort. And then there’s the meteorite dial – silver-finished, deep-patterned, with blued hands and markers that give it real presence. That’s the Formex way: keep pushing, tweak the details, and make every watch a step forward.
The Essence FortyOne is powered by a Swiss Made Sellita SW200-1 self-winding movement with a power reserve of 41 hours. We've chosen its highest quality grade "Chronometer" because it comes with premium components such as a Glucydur balance wheel which is exceptionally hard and stable, very resistant to deformation, non-magnetic, and non-corrosive. The movement is completely decorated and wound by Formex’s in-house developed and custom built skeletonized rotor. Each one of these movements is certified by the COSC (the official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) and undergoes the meticulous 15-day rate test to ensure extraordinary levels of mechanical accuracy and precision. Each certified chronometer is unique, identified by a number engraved on its movement and a certificate number issued by the COSC. While less than 3% of Swiss watch movements are officially certified, Formex further rate test them per the same criteria after assembly, to measure if there is any deviation from the certification rates.
Muonionalusta meteorite dial featuring a naturally occurring Widmanstätten pattern, formed through the ultra-slow cooling of the asteroid’s core. Each dial is one-of-a-kind, with a beveled date window machined directly into the meteorite. A proprietary anti-oxidation treatment developed with Cadranor penetrates the porous iron matrix and is sealed with galvanic rhodium plating—preserving the raw texture while enhancing its silvery sheen. Blued hands and markers complement the dial’s spectral appearance, with BGW9 Super-LumiNova applied to hands and indexes for low-light legibility.
SUSPENSION SYSTEM
Since the beginning of Formex in 1999, the patented Case Suspension System has been an integral part of Formex timepieces. Its two main functions are:
- absorbs shocks to protect the mechanical movement from heavy impacts
- adds to the comfort on the wrist by adapting to the wearer’s movements
Modeled with high-performance bikes and racing cars in mind, the Formex patented case suspension system works by integrating four springs between the upper and lower watch case. The result is the ultimate shock absorption system designed to protect the mechanical movement and deliver unparalleled comfort to the wearer.
This patented case suspension system brings form and function together for Formex Swiss watches. It’s functional, it’s state of the art engineering and it’s unquestionably unique - all in one watch.
