Islander Bethpage Amerigraph Full Lume (BGW9) Dial PVD Watch with Chronograph Function #ISL-202
The Islander Bethpage is named after the town where the Apollo Lunar Module was designed and built. This is the only craft that landed humans on the moon. Like the Lunar Module, the Islander Bethpage is also assembled in America.
The Bethpage is our first watch to bear the mark of “Amerigraph”, a trademarked term that denotes an American Assembled watch with a chronograph movement. The watch is perfectly sized at 40mm in diameter, and 13.5mm thick. The lug to lug is a very wearable 47mm. Weighing in at 163 grams, you will find it is extremely well balanced on the wrist.
The Islander ISL-202 Bethpage features a full lume dial, treated with BGW9 Super-LumiNova that glows blue when the lights go down. The subdials are done in contrasting black. Operating the chronograph is a breeze – press the top plunger to active the chronograph, press again to stop, and the bottom button will reset it. Elapsed seconds are counted at the 6:00 position, while a 60-minute elapsed subdial is at the 9:00 position; perfect for timing sub-orbital burns, or your pasta. At the 3:00 position, you will find a 24-hour indicator – but we have designed it in such a way that the top half is daylight hours (silver) and the bottom half is dark. It’s a small addition that makes quite an impact when viewing the watch.
The chapter ring of the dial is done in contrasting black, with red hash marks to match the accent color of the subdial hands, and the Amerigraph text. The markers are applied, without lume, so they actually pop in daytime or the nightime.. The fixed bezel is black ceramic, lumed with BGW9, and marked in military time to keep with the theme of the watch. The black hands remain easy to read against the dial. The crystal is domed sapphire with AR coating on the underside.
The case is done in full PVD. There are brushed and polished surfaces, and the black of the case really makes the dial come to life. The crown is push-pull and embossed with the Islander logo.
The watch is powered by the Ameriquartz 7C01 movement. Turning the watch over reveals an exhibition caseback where you can see the gold color plated movement, along with the battery and coils. This is not some cheap throwaway quartz movement – it is a 5-jewel movement that is fully serviceable should the need arise. Accuracy is ±20 seconds per month, and theoretical battery life is 36 months (including chrono usage). Etched along the caseback is the battery type as well, so when the time comes, you will know if you have the battery on hand.
The watch attaches to your wrist with a 20mm PVD bracelet featuring solid links and solid endlinks. The bracelet is sized with screws, so you will be up and running (or flying) in no time. The bracelet tapers to 18mm at the clasp, and features a brushed top and polished sides. Lastly, the clasp is etched with an image of the Lunar Module, to complete the package.
