Islander C3 SuperLuminous Dial Automatic Dive Watch with AR Double Dome Sapphire Crystal, and 120-click Bezel #ISL-58

Islander C3 SuperLumious Dial Automatic Dive Watch with AR Double Dome Sapphire Crystal, and 120-click Bezel #ISL-58

The Islander ISL-58 has the familiar look of an iconic dive watch which has been discontinued. The Islander version mimics the original but, it has an all solid link bracelet that uses screws for sizing (instead of the very fussy pin and collar system). The upgraded bracelet also features a more robust milled deployant clasp with a dual-push button release. Another Islander upgrade is a double-dome sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective (inside only) coating that provides scratch protection and a clearer view of the dial and time. Note: This is a new version of the ISL-58 with a black DLC luminous bezel.

The movement is a 24-jewel NH36 automatic that offers you the same reliable performance as later editions of this iconic dive watch. The off-white dial is fully luminous. The dial is coated with C3 SuperLuminova and uses contrasting black hands and markers so you can easily see the time in dark conditions. The uni-directional 120-click rotating bezel on the ISL-58 also has its markings filled with Superluminova to give you an even better glow-in-the-dark experience. The day and date window is in the familiar 3:00 position.

The lugs are drilled for bracelet to dive strap changes. Lug width is 20mm. The case size is 42mm diameter by 13mm thick. 47mm tip to tip. Finish is brushed and polished. The crown and caseback are screw-in. Water resistance is 200 meters.

    ISL-58

I like this watch. I like the case (despite a couple of little flaws). I really like the bracelet. I adore the lumed dial. For a long time I was looking for something like this: a watch with lumed dial, with "naked" but lumed bezel, with a bracelet different from the quite usual oyster one. So this one ticks all those items of the "wishlist". Of course, the watch is not ideal. It has some flaws (I would rather said minor flaws). First, lume fades faster than I would like it to. Second, the upper crown guard has an awkward form. I used to it after some time. But it's still awkward. :) Third, the bezel rotates too easily. It may rotate just when you rub it against the sleeve of your jacket. Fourth, it's quites strange to see a polished caseback on the diver watch. All those smudges from your skingrease are so much more visible than it would be on the satin caseback. And fifth, the security latch on the clasp opens way too easy, It's opened on its own when I was just swimming. It's a quick and simple fix, but I think I still should mention it. The clasp itself is secure enough, it did not open even when I was in the aquapark. Anyway, it's a great watch. Especially if you consider its price. I like it very much, I wear it a couple of days per week for several months already. It was my main watch during the summer vacation. And I think I'll be keeping it in my watch-set for a long-long time.

Almost there, but not quite yet...

So let me begin by saying that it is indeed a lume MONSTER, and that's already pretty sweet. The flashlight effect does go away within a couple of minutes, but it retains enough luminosity to be readable in the dark long past that, so nothing wrong for me there. I do take issue couple with a couple of things though: - the day and date wheels are not aligned properly within the window. - the bezel has a bit too much back-play for my liking. Still, neither is major and, while there could be yet more improvements (i.e. diver's extension), it is a solid homage of an icon with a funky twist. Overall, I am happy with the watch and I already look onto it fondly as it will serve as a reminder for all those "watch & learn" episodes that contributed to enabling my addiction, thanks guys! (or should I say, "screw you!"? ;P )

    Great lume, but fades quickly

The luminescent dial is absolutely amazing, but unfortunately the loom fades out fairly quickly. Other than, I will say it’s a well rounded homage to the monster.

    Brilliant!

I got this watch for the lume and the cool Monster vibe and it does not disappoint. Coming in from outside, or reaching into a cupboard, the face and bezel glow like torches. Great looking crystal, bracelet, and case. Cons? Well, the bezel has a slightly chunky action, but it holds its place well: when it looks this stellar, no biggie! Accuracy wise I've been running at about -15s/day within the NH35 norms. Overall, a great looking, wearing, and functioning watch. Highly recommended!

    ISL-58 crown guard

Posted by Stuart Lunick on May 15th 2021

Well built watch but the crown guard on this model cut my finger when I went to wind the watch for the first time. Face not my favorite of the Islanders. Already sized so I cannot return. Now collecting dusk in the back of my watch box.

    Great monster replacement

Posted by Chase on May 13th 2021

Since Seiko retired the monster, I wasn't really looking to grab one. When Marc posted his video on his design of the line though, I had to have one. Particularly this full-lume dial version. The lume is great (bezel, too!) The crown is smooth and pleasant to use, sapphire crystal, tried & true Seiko movement, and great Islander bracelet. The bezel ratchets smoothly with no noticeable play. It feels excellent on my wrist and has kept time well without any issues. I'm very happy I got one and am further curious now why Seiko discontinued them.

    This ISL-58 is awesome

I got this beauty 3 week ago and I can't believe for the price you get more than the seiko monster. Thanks Marc for picking up where seiko left us hanging I'd recommend this watch if you like the monster line

    Great Value

Posted by Jeremey Miller on May 7th 2021

As soon as I saw these monsters I knew I’d have to get one it was between the white and full lime and I went with this one it’s a well constructed watch with nice features for the price that are upgrades over a Seiko sapphire, screw links, milled clasp and everything lines up! The bezel action is look as clicky similar to my transoceans or 300m tuna but with more back play. Crown is easy to grip thanks to its texture. My only gripes are albeit the clasp is more robust than a stamped Seiko the action isn’t nearly as nice it’s so stiff I have to push the side buttons just to close it and the safety is also very stiff. And while the lume looks awesome charged up the longevity is t very good but being a huge Seiko collector any other lume including Rolex will leave something to be desired overall not bad for the money and it got delivered super fast!
