The new GPM uses a Seiko NH “Dual Winding Movement” (DWM) and can be wound both by manually winding the crown or by use of the automatic self-winding rotor (transferred energy caused by the movement of the wrist). Once fully wound the GPM will run for approximately 40 hours without the need to be wound again, or can be worn to wind using the automatic self-winding rotor.

The case of the GPM is made from high-impact fibreshell, which does not sacrifice quality or durability while keeping weight low. Applied on the dial, minute, and hour hands are self contained Tritium gas filled tubes which ensure a constant glow for maximum low-light visibility. Tritium is a trusted source of illumination for military equipment, from watches to aeronautical displays, firearm sights, and binoculars. Tritium tubes glow on their own without the need for charging by an external light source, and will not fade in brightness making it an ideal configuration for nighttime or low light operation.

The crystal (lens) of the new GPM is made from sapphire ensuring the highest possible scratch resistance, legibility, and durability. This new sapphire crystal is 3mm thick, providing added durability and impact resistance. Adding to the overall durability and reliability is the upgraded water resistance on the new GPM giving it a water resistant of 3ATM (30 meters/98.4 feet), making sure that it will not yield to the elements. Included with the new GPM is a one piece nylon military strap which is made in accordance with MIL-S-46383B Type II and provides comfort and durability while remaining lightweight. Also available from Marathon are extra nylon straps in various colors to personalize your GPM.

Overall assembly of the watch is performed in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland, combining the accuracy of a Marathon designed Japanese movement with reliability and Swiss craftsmanship to bring you a superb watch. “This is a great field watch! The constant tritium lume is good and the watch itself is very light weight, the fact that it has a flat sapphire glass it makes me less worried of the occasional scratches and bumps. Even though the watch is 34mm it wears slightly bigger. I've been looking for a sub 38mm field watch and I pulled the trigger this one given it had tritium lume, sapphire glass and it's a MIL Spec watch.
Although if you have a large wrist or are used to wearing >40mm watches it might look small to you given that it also has a 16mm nylon band.”

“I have had my eye on this one for a while, and finally pulled the trigger hoping I wouldn't have buyer's remorse. After wearing it for a while, I'm glad I bought it. It's easily one of the lightest watches I own, and because of this it's quite comfortable to wear. The Tritium illumination is definitely more than bright enough to be able to tell the time at night (especially with night adapted eyes), so I have a tendency to wear it to bed. It appears to be taller than it needs to be, but it's not any taller on the wrist than my square G-Shock. The proportions might be off putting to some, but I've grown to love it. I find that my particular unit loses about 4 seconds a day, which is acceptable to me. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.”

I have small wrists so this Marathon fit the ticket. It is running accurate to within 5 seconds a day and it is true, as your eyes adjust to darkness the Tritium is bright.

“Watch arrive quickly after ordering it. The tritium tubes provided better than expected illumination in mid light and as expected Illumination in darkness. The only thing that I personally will change is the watch band, since the one that is comes with is fairly stiff on the width edges and uncomfortable because of that to me.”
