Seiko 2nd Generation Black Monster with new 24-Jewel Automatic Movement #SRP307K1

The Seiko Superior SRP307 is the new, second generation Black Monster dive watch.

It retains the essentials of the original such as the excellent bracelet, case and bezel, while changing the dial slightly and going with a new 24-jewel Seiko caliber 4R36 automatic (self-winding) movement. You will notice right away that the hour markers are shaped like shark teeth instead of the original mostly rectangular shapes. The inner sixty minute markings are no longer displayed making for a cleaner, less cluttered look.

The biggest change is on the inside. The watch is now powered by a new 24-jewel caliber 4R36 movement which now can be hacked and hand wound. Hacking is handy for synchronizing the watch with another timepiece. Just unscrew the crown. Pull it out to the 2nd position and the second hand will stop while you set the time. Hand winding lets you power up the watch manually after it has sat unworn for a few days. The movement is more accurate also compared to the caliber 7S26 used in the first Monster.

The powerful Seiko LumiBrite luminescent material is of course still used and it retains the same brilliant glowing properties that made the Orange Monster such a huge worldwide phenomenon with watch enthusiasts and scuba divers. It is a very slightly different shade of blue-green this time. Still an awesome sight in the dark after charging it with a bright light source. You will also notice a new nicely machined crown that is a bit easier to grip than the previous version.

Lug width is 20mm. Case size is 43mm. Slightly domed Hardlex mineral crystal. Concave dive bezel to help protect the crystal. Stainless steel bracelet with a dual push-button deployant clasp with safety latch. Solid screw-in case back. Water resistant to 200 meters. Day and date window. It's a fantastic bargain.

When it comes to online shopping, the chance of speaking with the business owner is close to zero. At Island Watch, you do it whenever you want or need, and it was really important to me being able to do it after I realized I had entered the wrong city on the delivery address of my Seiko New Black Monster - all I needed to do was a Skype call to reach Marc. The watch, on purpose, looks fantastic and came with all protection plastics, box and papers. I am very pleased with my monster. Value for money is very high. Quality, design and the feeling wearing the watch is very appealing. Adjusting the bracelet must be done with care, but using simple but proper tooling makes the job fairly easy. I would definately recommed this watch to anyone interested in buying an automatic divers watch. My feeling is that buying another watch with the same feeling will cost a whole lot more.

This is a great watch. I really like the changes that were made. The applied indices, removing the minute numbers on the center of the dial, adding orange on the tip of the seconds and of course the movement upgrade. The hacking and winding is a great upgrade. Not sure if I'm lucky, but mine is really accurate. About +5 secs/day. My previous monsters weren't even close to that kind of accuracy. The crown is the only change that I not too fond of. It's harder to turn than the previous and I like the look of the older crown. But this is not a deal breaker for me. Island watch is a great to deal with. They answer emails quickly and their shipping is fast.

this watch is as nice as they come. that goes without saying. After i ordered i had to email long island watch to ask them a couple of questions. The owner replied IMMEDIATELY and answered all of my questions. i highly reccomend this company for doing business with. i definately will in the future. And if you come across this watch-----get it. they are very hard to come by. thank u.
