Squale x DRASS S.A.V.E.R. 500M Dive Watch #VONDSSSAVS
Squale and Drass Underwater Technologies renew their collaboration with the presentation of a timepiece directly inspired by the world of submarines: the Squale DRASS SAVER watch. Designed for professionals operating aboard these imposing underwater machines, it debuts today in a robust and exclusive edition.
Squale and Drass embody two complementary excellences: on one side, Swiss tradition in professional dive watchmaking, and on the other, Italian leadership in submarine construction and deep-sea technologies. United by a long history and the same pioneering spirit, they present the new Squale DRASS S.A.V.E.R. model, inspired by the innovative SAVER rescue system, designed to ensure safe and effective rescue operations even in the most extreme marine conditions.
SAVER – The Future of Submarine Rescue Has Arrived
The SAVER submarine rescue system is today the most advanced and versatile rescue solution in operation. Think of it as a true “Swiss Army knife” for underwater emergencies: it integrates a Submarine Rescue Vehicle (SRV), a Submarine Rescue Capsule (SRC), a Submarine Ventilation System (SVS), an operational ROV (up to 600 meters deep), and a Portable Launch & Recovery System, all ready to be deployed anywhere in the world, when every second counts.
Used by modern marine forces such as the Italian Navy, SAVER is not just a rescue system: it is a complete underwater intervention platform, designed to face the toughest challenges beneath the waves.
The Collaboration
Following the success of the DRASS Periscope model, created in 2022 initially for submarine operators and later released to the public, Squale and Drass strengthen their partnership with the Squale DRASS S.A.V.E.R. project. This new watch represents the natural evolution of a collaboration built on reliability and innovation. With the DRASS SAVER, the two companies reaffirm their leadership in their respective fields, uniting Swiss watchmaking tradition with underwater technological excellence.
The Watch
For this unique project, the Squale has chosen the iconic and historic Master case (brushed Stainless Steel 316L), with one distinctive feature: unlike the previous Periscope model, the crown is positioned at 3 o’clock and fitted with a red O-ring, allowing an immediate visual control of closure while ensuring water resistance up to 50 ATM (500 meters). In fact, the Master case has been tested at even greater depths, ensuring its suitability for professional use by the highly specialized operators of the DRASS submarines. Its military inspiration is evident in the steel BUND bezel (from “Bundeswehr,” the German Army, referring to watches supplied to the military with specific aesthetic and functional features such as a bezel without markings), while the black dial features the yellow DRASS SAVER logo, echoed on the minute hand, the seconds hand, and the Super-LumiNova BGW9 indexes.
The watch comes with a custom leather strap with yellow stitching and SAVER logo, as well as a black Von Büren Pro rubber strap, all housed in an exclusive water- and shock-resistant box.
SQUALE AT A GLANCE
Squale is an independent Swiss brand founded in Neuchâtel by Charles Von Büren in 1959 and, since the 1980s, owned by the Maggi family—first under the leadership of Elisio and later his son Andrea. With Swiss mechanics and components, the brand offers a catalog of around ten models, most of which are undisputed icons in the history of professional dive watches. Squale timepieces have been worn by legendary free divers such as Giuliana "Jolly" Treleani, Jean Tapu, Enzo Maiorca, and Jacques Mayol. Between the 1960s and 1980s, Squale was also a key supplier to at least thirty other brands, including highend ones, with its logo placed at 6 o’clock on the dial as a mark of water resistance and reliability. Today, these models are highly sought after by collectors worldwide, just like the more recent special editions made for the Italian Armed Forces. Among the most notable are those created for the Folgore Paratroopers, Carabinieri, State Police, Navy, and Comsubin Frogmen.
DRASS UNDERWATER TECHNOLOGIES
With over a century of continuous operation, DRASS stands among the early pioneers of Italian subsea innovation, having achieved successive world records in deep-sea immersion since the 1930s. Building on a legacy of underwater defence crafts dating back to World War II, DRASS today remains a global leader in state-of-the-art technology for the commercial diving, rescue, and defence sectors—driven by an enduring commitment to quality and innovation.
Combining proven designs with next-generation engineering, DRASS equips modern navies with a comprehensive range of solutions, including the SAVER Submarine Rescue System, recently adopted by the Italian Navy. This system represents the most advanced and versatile rescue capability available, offering double the capacity of any rescue solution in service today.
The DRASS portfolio also includes compact submarines, swimmer delivery vehicles for special forces, and complete submarine rescue vessel designs, as well as integrated training and lockout solutions. Holding key patents across its product range, DRASS’s rescue and defence crafts are recognized worldwide for their reliability, simplicity, and operational excellence.
