The new Islander ISL-16 is an Aviator-Pilot style watch with a Type-A dial. The case is a very wearable 42mm in diameter and it is just 12mm thick. Lug to lug (or tip to tip) measurement is 48mm. The screw-in case back has the silhouette of an F-14 fighter jet etched into it. The iconic F-14 was manufactured by the Grumman company on Long Island and it was featured in the movie Top Gun.

Inside the case is an NH38, 24-jewel automatic movement with 21,600 vibrations per hour. This self-winding movement supports hand winding and hacks (seconds hand stops when you pull out the crown). Power reserve is about 41 hours fully wound. The NH38 is a no-date movement.

The blue dial has SuperLuminova on the sword-style hands and hour makers. The dial is unbranded like many of the vintage WWII offerings. The Islander ISL-16 features a Type-A dial with a clearly marked 60-minute scale and Arabic numerals except at 12:00 where a triangle with dots is used. The hour hand, minute hand, and dial markings are all treated with C3 SuperLuminova. The seconds hand is painted white and now has a red tip. You will note that the dial has excellent visibility due to the use of an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that also guards against scratches.

This model comes with a brown leather strap with matching stitching. The buckle is signed (i.e. Islander logo). You can change up the look with a military-style nylon strap and any of our leather straps. The lug width is 22mm.

The ISL-16 aviator watch features a screw down crown which provides a water resistance rating of 100 meters.

    I am just as thrilled with this watch, as I was with the Islander automatic field watch. This specific aviator model is literally just about perfect in my view...I don't know how you could make it better for the price point.     Practical Pilots Watch

    I’m hard to please when it comes to watches. I like something sturdy, water resistant (100+ meters), and versatile. It’s mind-boggling to me that companies like IWC can charge so much money for a watch that is only water resistant to around 3-5 bar. If you’re only ever sitting in a cockpit that wouldn’t really be a problem, but for the average Joe that’s not the case. Marc did something pretty incredible with this watch. It’s got a sapphire crystal, screw down crown, 100m water resistance, etc. I actually put mine on a leather strap with rivets that I had lying around and from a distance it looks pretty damn close to an IWC. It’s even more historically accurate with the sterile dial (no branding). The only thing I wish this watch had available is a bracelet (engineer style or similar), but I can’t knock the watch for that. It hits pretty much all the positive marks for me and I really home Marc continues to sneak in these aviation watches because I’ll keep buying them.

    Finally, a great looking pilots watch at a great price! Usually you'd have to spend a few hundred more for a pilot automatic. Marc knocks it out of the park!

    Love the watch...but my wrist is unfortunately too small and the watch just didn’t fit ! Please consider a smaller version (38mm for example) I’d seriously reconsider buying it then

    I recently purchased the ISL-16 Blue face pilots watch. Love it. The face is so legible, crisp, and colorful. I have nothing negative to day. The sapphire crystal looks great and has no dings despite my careless knocking about in an office setting where desks jump out from time to time. I am chained to the desk for long intervals, and it may sound strange but often I use the watch as entertainment, just admiring it. Thanks, Marc!

    Great value for the price point.

    Love the color and AR Sapphire, feels comfortable on the wrist, has decent accuracy seems to be off by a minute after 72 hours (slow and fast) often balances out. Overall very satisfied with my purchase. Only suggestion if I may is to smooth down the sharp edges on the lugs.
