This Islander dive watch has a square cushion style case with brushed top-back and polished sides. It is a new style for the Islander series of watches. The diameter is 42mm with a thickness of 13mm. Tip to tip it is a 49.5mm. Note that the lug ends are drilled for easier bracelet to strap changes. The case back has a rendering of Long Island on it along with the Islander name, and a 200 meter water resistance rating.

Inside the ISL-79 case is an NH36, 24-jewel automatic movement with 21,600 vibrations per hour. This self-winding movement supports hand winding and hacks (seconds hand stops when you pull out the crown). Power reserve is about 41 hours fully wound.

The dial is a sandwich type. It has a SuperLuminova bottom layer plus a sunburst blue-green top layer with cut-outs for the hour markers. It creates a kind of three dimensional look that is a real eye-catcher. SuperLuminova is also applied to the popular MM style hands. The 120-click uni-directional bezel has a scratch-resistant ceramic insert with SuperLuminova treated markers for a maximum glow-in-the-dark experience. The dial also has enhanced visibility due to the use of an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that also guards against scratches.

And, you get a beautiful beads-of-rice style bracelet with solid links, female end links and a milled scissor push-button flip-lock deployant clasp with three position micro-adjustment. For sizing the bracelet, screws are used for removing bracelet links instead of pins.

NOTE: This Islander dive watch is compatible with aftermarket parts available at Island Watch (and elsewhere) for the SKX007 models, such as crystals, bezels, inserts, chapter rings, dials, and hands. However SKX bracelets will not fit.

I really quite enjoy this watch. The sandwich dial looks great and the lume is quite nice. Definitely a great Islander. Glad I saw the video for it.

There's so much to like with this value propersition. The watch wears very comfortably, the sunburst dial realy pops and I love the feel, fit and finish of the bracelet.

I was looking for something different in my collection, and this was a perfect pick, between the case shape, the MM hands, and no date. The dial has a nice green blue sunburst, that changes color in the light. The sandwich dial is an uncommon feature on a watch in this price range. It has all the other features we have come to expect with solid end links, sapphire crystal, machined clasp, screw down crown, and a ceramic bezel. Just an amazing watch for the money.

A Perfect Blend of the Past, Present and Future

I got mine last weekend and haven't taken it off. It looks even better in real life. It's got so many cool things going on at once...It brings to mind Retro, Art Deco, Mod Subculture, Warhol's Factory, Steam Punk, Motorcycle Nomad, Rugged Diver in a modern package. This watch will definitely stir something within you. I think for everyone it will be different based on how this watch connects with you. For me, it is going on a wide leather cuff with a wrench in my back pocket, the familiar smell of gasoline growling engines and hitting the open road. Marc and team are on fire. I eagerly await the next new creation to come out of your Laboratory!

When it was announced I couldn't help myself. I had to have it. Today the lovely little box from Long Island arrived and I couldn't be more pleased. The specs vs. price are unreal. Marc gets bonus points for throwing in a small screwdriver for link adjustment. Overall, 10/10!!

This “original” piece from LIW is yet another winner. The dial color is wonderful and changes in the light. It’s legible, has excellent lume, an amazing bracelet with everything but a sliding clasp, better bezel action than the SKX style bezels, and a cool crown without crown guards. It looks both vintage and modern. The cushion style case adds some fun without adding a ton of bulk. The cushion effect is mild and not overly huge. All of the supplied measurements are accurate but for the thickness. I have mine at 13.5mm, not 13. This wears and looks very much like the 43mm SKX style case on the wrist. Don’t worry too much about the 49.5mm lug to lug. The female end links on the bracelet make the effective lug to lug on this one wear even smaller than the SKX (43mm) version when on bracelet. That said, this wears a little larger on a strap. The SKX version does hug the wrist a little more. All in all, a winner. Simultaneously vintage and modern. A Panerai pilot diver.
