This Islander dive watch has a square cushion style case with brushed top-back and polished sides. It is a new style for the Islander series of watches. The diameter is 42mm with a thickness of 13mm. Tip to tip it is a 49.5mm. Note that the lug ends are drilled for easier bracelet to strap changes. The case back has a rendering of Long Island on it along with the Islander name, and a 200 meter water resistance rating.

Inside the ISL-79 case is an NH36, 24-jewel automatic movement with 21,600 vibrations per hour. This self-winding movement supports hand winding and hacks (seconds hand stops when you pull out the crown). Power reserve is about 41 hours fully wound.

The dial is a sandwich type. It has a SuperLuminova bottom layer plus a sunburst blue-green top layer with cut-outs for the hour markers. It creates a kind of three dimensional look that is a real eye-catcher. SuperLuminova is also applied to the popular MM style hands. The 120-click uni-directional bezel has a scratch-resistant ceramic insert with SuperLuminova treated markers for a maximum glow-in-the-dark experience. The dial also has enhanced visibility due to the use of an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that also guards against scratches.

And, you get a beautiful beads-of-rice style bracelet with solid links, female end links and a milled scissor push-button flip-lock deployant clasp with three position micro-adjustment. For sizing the bracelet, screws are used for removing bracelet links instead of pins.

NOTE: This Islander dive watch is compatible with aftermarket parts available at Island Watch (and elsewhere) for the SKX007 models, such as crystals, bezels, inserts, chapter rings, dials, and hands. However SKX bracelets will not fit.

A Different Dive Watch

This dial captured my attention as soon as I saw it. I am not really a big fan of dive watches, but this one I happily added to my collection. The lume combination on the watch dial and bezel look great in low light as all the indices on the bezel are lumed, not just the triangle at 12. It also looks great when the sun hits that blue-green dial. Really a striking watch that has attracted attention when worn.

Stunning and different.

I was extremely on the fence with this one. I love Long Island’s Islander series, but this one is a little out of my normal wear….. so glad I decided to grab one. The green is beautiful and vibrant. The sandwich dial is a cool design. The bracelet is extremely comfortable and sparkles in the light. My only issue is my chapter ring is SLIGHTLY off center. But as a Seiko “fanboy” I’m kind of used to that. I recommend this one if you’re looking for something familiar, yet different.

If you’re a fan of dials then this watch is a MUST buy. Every time I go to check the time my eyes are drawn to the waves of blue glimmering in the light. I find myself instantly needing to find out what it looks like in slightly less light or slightly more. Covering my had over the dial or stepping out of a shaded area staring at my wrist, I am oblivious to time and space around me, until I remember I looked down to check the time because I had somewhere to be. The hacking/hand winding movement also keeps excellent time and the case sits perfectly on my wrist. My first islander and certainly not my last!

… and it won’t be my last. This is a beautiful watch, very well-constructed and finished. The dial is unlike anything else I own, and looks fantastic. The bracelet is a perfect match, and was easy to size with the included screwdriver - a very nice touch! Now I wait, patiently, for an Islander GMT to add to the collection.

Amazing value for money, totally worth the asking price. Nice fit and finish. The dial color is even nicer looking in person. If you are on the fence about this one, just get it. Ill be getting another islander watch soon, maybe a full-lume dial. Cheers!

A nifty Islander diver

ISL-79 is a unique and splendid offering just the dial color and case design makes it stand out and what attracted me to purchasing this model. I wish that the hand set would have been a bit longer similar to the islander field watches. Also, I wish this model would have been chosen to have "islander" written out. Everything else from the bracelet, dial, bezel, case, & lume is all well done no issues. Looking forward to future colors and variations of this model.
