Seiko Special Edition, Save the Ocean Prospex Solar Quartz Chronograph #SSC701

Seiko Special Edition, Save the Ocean Prospex Solar Quartz Chronograph with Stop-Watch and 24-hour Sub-Dial #SSC701

This new Seiko special edition Prospex chrongraph is part of the new Save the Ocean collection. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this collection will be donated to the non-profit Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center that raises awareness of ways to preserve and protect the planets waters and endangered marine life.

It is a handsome looking diver-style chronograph with stopwatch functions (1/20 sec to 60 minutes), and a handy 24-hour sub-dial. The blue wave pattern dial absorbs energy from the sun to power the watch. Most indoor lighting can provide a charge as well. The black ion-plated stainless steel case measures 43.5mm and it has a solid screw-in back. The luminous markers and hands are easily viewable on the blue dial. Includes a uni-directional black-blue dive bezel with luminous PIP at 12:00, screw-down pushers, a screw-in crown, and a Seiko soft silicone blue dive strap with a buckle closure. The watch is 200 meter water resistant. Make sure all pushers and crown are screwed-in for swimming.

Very Surprised how much Nicer Looking it is . . .

Posted by Gabe on Dec 19th 2020

Very Surprised how much Nicer Looking it is compared to it's photos. Also it's strap is amazingly soft and makes wearing this watch (140grams) so unnoticeable compared to other lighter watches. The Lume is Bright and hold it's light longer then most (though Tissot, Citizen, and a few others give it fair competition). It's a large watch so don't see me using it much until Spring roles around. Like all Silicone straps it does make it really good for cool weather or you guessed it - Diving! - but it's to hot for summer. My only complaint is it uses Mineral instead of Sapphire. Maybe Sapphire cracks at 200M but my best Dives have all been above 40m so I would have liked a Sapphire to last longer without scratches. I have a Movado Chrono-Diver Kingmatic (200M) that is 30yrs old, used daily and it still has no scratches.

    Love this solar chrono

Posted by Chase Flynn on Jul 9th 2020

I wanted a chronograph and generally like Seiko’s watch designs. This one definitely holds my eye. The finish on the watch looks great and it feels solid. The bezel clicks nicely and doesn’t have alignment issues and the pushers & crown are pleasant to work with. The screw-down rings for the pushers feel a little loose when they’re not screwed down, but it doesn’t jingle when I move around so I’m not worried about it. Love that it still is dive-rated (screw down your pushers first!) Hard to beat that Seiko lume, too - when I found that the lume is different colors, I was ecstatic (I’m a dork). The sweep of the chrono hands when they’re reset also makes me grin. The Seiko strap the watch ships with is actually nice. The material feels soft and the hardware matches the watch’s finish nicely. That said, I’ve already put a navy NATO strap on and it still looks excellent.

Beautiful piece. Not too big not too small. The blue dial is gorgeous and is easy to operate. I have gotten a lot of great compliments from friends on this great looking timepiece. Great service and fast shipping from Long Island watch. Will definitely purchase from them again!
